Sochaux striker Modibo Maiga is set to undergo a medical in London today ahead of a proposed move to Newcastle United in the January transfer window.

The 24-year-old Mali striker has been on the radar of the Tyneside club since the summer when the two clubs became involved in a war of words over the potential transfer of the striker which resulted in the French outfit reporting Newcastle to UEFA.

However both Sochaux and Newcastle seem to have been able to put their differences aside and Newcastle look set to sign their man for a fee believed to be in the region of £7m providing the medical goes ahead without any hitches.

Maiga has been a revelation since joining Sochaux. Primarily a winger at his previous clubs it wasn’t until he moved to Les Lionceaux that he started playing regularly in attack. The result being a goal return of 19 goals in 41 appearances for the Montbéliard outfit. The Mali striker is known for his pace, power and ahtleticism.

Maiga has gone on record saying that he would love to join Alan Pardew and the growing French contingent in the North-East and his medical today ensures that his wish takes another step closer to becoming reality.
