Wigan chase Barcelona striker

Wigan Athletic are looking into a January move for Barcelona ‘B’ striker, Jonathan Soriano as they look to add more firepower to their squad in an attempt to stave off relegation.

Wigan currently sit bottom of the Premier League table and have had real trouble finding the back of the net so far this season. It is hoped that the addition of another striker will rectify this and help Roberto Martinez guide his Latics away from the drop zone.

Soriano is out of contract at the end of the season and his agent has already admitted that no new contract has been offered and that the player is looking to move abroad at the end of his deal, if not before.

The 26-year-old has been a prolific scorer for the Barcelona ‘B’ team having scored 54 goals in 74 appearances. That kind of form was replicated in the Espanyol ‘B’ team earlier on in his career where he bagged 32 goals in 69 appearances. However when presented with a first team opportunity he has failed to live up to his expectations scoring only three goals in 43 La Liga appearances.

QPR, Swansea and Marseille are also said to be monitoring the player.
